New design for site and blog

  (Tuesday, February 21. 2006)
The last week I created a new layout for my site and my blog. I used valid XHTML 1.1 Strict and CSS 2 to realize the design which is based on modern CSS layout techniques. The smart use of CSS and in general the separation between code and layout was very important for me.. The layout should look fine in all latest browsers like Firefox 1.x+, Opera 7.x+ and M$ IE 5.x+ which support the CSS 1 (and partly CSS2) standard.

I adapted (almost) the entire default template of Wordpress to my ideas and requirements. The CSS file of the default style sucks because it's pretty huge and I reduced its size by nearly 50 percent but my current stylesheet file is anything but perfect. There are still a lot of things to improve.. maybe I will provide a minimal Wordpress template for interested people in the near future.

morpheus offline

  (Wednesday, February 15. 2006)
morpheus will be offline until the end of the month due to some discrepancies with his isp. there will be no high-rated security vulnerabilities discovered by him until then :/ (the security work has no relationship to his offline-time)

we all have to wait until he is back ... i will keep you updated if he sends me any news ...

kind regards,

Texas Hold 'em Poker - No Limit

  (Monday, February 13. 2006)
On last Saturday four buddies and I played a poker game called Texas Hold 'em - no limit. Two of my colleagues already played Texas Hold 'em poker therefore they explained the rules and the principle of the game. It's not difficult to understand - here is an introduction to Texas Hold 'em and a hand ranking - and it really makes a lot of fun.

We played with original (of course canceled) Las Vegas poker cards and nice poker chips.

Finding hidden drivers in Windoze NT

  (Monday, February 13. 2006)
Lately I had an idea to simply detect loaded kernel drivers which hide their presence after their execution. I'm sure this method is already known/used but because I never read of it I decided to write it down.

You have to reboot your box and start the system with enabled boot logging - hit F8 before Windoze boot screen and select the entry "Enable Boot Logging". Another possibilty to boot with enabled logging is to hand the /BOOTLOG option to the Windoze kernel as a parameter by editing the `boot.ini' file.

Really great ideas..

  (Monday, February 13. 2006)

lol. Really great ideas..

Windoze 03 Server SP1 DDK

  (Monday, February 13. 2006)
The Windoze 03 Server SP1 DDK (Driver Development Kit) provides a driver development environment for Windoze 03 Server, Windoze XP, and Windoze 2k. The DDK contains additional header files, sample code, documentation, libraries and
development tools like debuggers.

The DDK is currently free - you only have to pay the shipping costs for the DDK suite - but it is not offered as a download on the M$ site. So, how to get a copy of the latest Windoze DDK? It's simple. The DKK is included in the Kernel-Mode Driver Framework (KMDF) and after the download of the ISO file (~ 270 MB) you are able to install or extract the DDK.

The KMDF provides multiple features required for kernel-mode drivers and their development:
  • Plug and Play and power management
  • I/O queues
  • Direct memory access (DMA)
  • Windows management instrumentation (WMI)
  • Synchronization
